Don’t allow fear to hold you back

How often do you ask yourself , what is it that is really holding me back? That’s something I question myself about almost everyday. If I could sum it up in one word, I would definitely say fear.

What is fear? If you asked me I would say it’s a pest, just kidding. Fear is really just an unpleasant emotion that gives you a feeling that something dangerous is about to happen. So essentially it’s your brain shouting: danger! danger!

Now, it’s ok to have fear ( remember we are humans) but, it becomes a problem when it gets in the way of your dreams. Fear can be like this big stumbling block standing between you and your goals. It will come at you from so many different angles, to try and convince you, that what you want to do will not be good for you. One of my experiences with fear, is me wanting to do a marathon. I have been saying that, for about two years now, but every time the opportunity comes up, I get in my head and tell myself that “I’m not going to be able to finish, i may end up fainting, I’m not strong enough yet, I need more time to train” I could go on and on with this list. Fear tells you, you can’t and you shouldn’t.

Regardless of the thoughts that fear puts in your mind, you have to find a way to conquer them and just do it anyway. Remember that fear is nothing but an emotion. Don’t let something as tiny as an emotion hold you back.

Make conquering your fear a winning habit. You have more strength than you think. It’s absolutely normal to have Fears, but, try and power through those thoughts and you will see amazing things begin to happen. I know failure is one of the biggest fear for most of us. However, we have counteract that with a mindset, that we have to be brave and bold in order to achieve our dreams. Get out of your comfort zone, face your fear and just do it anyway.

Inspire yourself

It’s great to be inspired, but what are you doing to inspire yourself ? start now, do something that keeps you inspired.

Practice winning habits

Whether it is good or bad, we all have them, habits. This is a tendency or practice that we have, which can be hard to give up. What are your habits? How do they affect your life? These are questions we need to ask ourselves. Are our habits contributing positively to our lives?

For me, I know I have some bad habits that needs to be put to rest. You see, your habits can affect your success in life. They should be aligned with your goals for yourself. For example, if reading inspirational stories and biographies is a habit of yours. Then, it’s likely that at some point, you will apply what you have learnt from these to your own life. One bad habit that we all have in common today, is that we devote too much time to our devices. We are so caught up with our smart phones, so much so, that it takes away valuable time that could be used to do something productive.

“Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken”

-Warren Buffet

These patterns can be very hard to break, because of how wired they are into our brains. However, the solution may be to try and substitute a particular behavior with something else. Try reading a book that will uplift you, instead of spending time on social media. That’s just one example and I know breaking bad habits is not something that is easy, but, if you ( we) try to develop a substitute plan for all the patterns that we dislike, then little by little we can create new habits that foster growth and positivity.

What are winning habits? once you decide what your life goals are, then you will want to create practices that will help you in achieving them. Here are some winning habits that we can all adopt:

  • Surround yourself with successful people. You will learn more from someone who is already at that place you are trying to reach.
  • Always think positive. Always expect great things to happen, no matter the circumstances.
  • Be proactive. Don’t wait for things to happen, make it happen.
  • Seek advice. Since we don’t know it all, we have to ask for help on how to go about getting it done.
  • So I am not trying to bore you to death, so I am going to end by telling you that every little thing that we do each day, help to determine whether we win or loose. Let’s start creating winning habits that will ensure a positive outcome.
  • Stop worrying about what others think of you

It is very normal to want to be liked and accepted by others. Everyone at some point, wonders what others have to say about them. ( that’s if we are being honest) worrying about another person’s thoughts of you is definitely one of the surest ways to doubt yourself and of course be unhappy.

The worst loneliness is to not be comfortable with your self.” Mark Twain

Imagine if we were to do things, just so that the people in our lives can be pleased with us. Now I’m not saying that you are to be selfish and heartless. I am talking about the “negative Nancy” that is always telling you that you should have done it the other way. I’m sure we all know one of those. Oh yes we have to care about the image we put out there, but at the same time don’t make it be about what others want for you. It should be about you and what you choose for yourself.

There is really no need to worry about what others think of you. When you think about it, no one is perfect, so everyone ( whether we like to admit it or not) has their own little insecurities that they deal with. If we look at things from this standpoint, it’s easier for us to worry less ( because we all have own issues).

One of the things we need to realize, is that what someone else think of us, is not who we are. They are not defining us. Only you can define who you are. It’s unfortunate that we have been socialized in such a way that teaches us to aim to be accepted by others. However, this is a cycle that has to the torn down and ripped apart. We have to start living for us, not for the next person.
